About Namo Buddha
Namo Buddha is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal, ranking after Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) and Boudhanath Stupa. Located on a peaceful hilltop in Kavre District, it is surrounded by lush green forests and terraced fields, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas and serene countryside.
The site holds deep religious significance due to the legend of Prince Mahasattva (Mahahridaya), who compassionately sacrificed his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. A stupa is built on the exact spot where this selfless act took place, and it is believed that the remains of the benevolent prince lie inside.
Namo Budha Monastery The Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, founded in the 1970s by Thrangu Rinpoche, now stands here as a vibrant center of Buddhist learning, meditation, and rituals.
